Barterfull Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Barterfull, LLC ("Barterfull," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and otherwise processes information about individuals who access or use the Barterfull website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").
Barterfull is a community directory that allows makers, growers, and cooks to create profiles, connect with other traders, and arrange in-person trades. If you access or use the Platform, you agree that your information may be handled as described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information Barterfull collects when you:
- visit or use the Platform;
- create or update an account;
- create or edit your maker profile;
- upload photos or other content;
- send or receive messages through the Platform;
- confirm a trade with another Member;
- contact Barterfull for support or legal/privacy issues;
- submit reports, complaints, or appeals; or
- otherwise interact with Barterfull.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to information exchanged directly between users outside the Platform, third-party websites or services not controlled by Barterfull, or information processed solely by third parties under their own privacy policies.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
We may collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- your name, email address, password, and account credentials;
- profile information, including your city, business or brand name, and "about" blurb;
- craft tags describing what you make, grow, or offer;
- photos you upload to your profile gallery;
- social links and contact information you choose to add to your profile;
- markets you RSVP to attend;
- trade confirmation records (mutual confirmations between you and other Members);
- messages and other communications sent through the Platform;
- support requests, reports, appeals, and other correspondence; and
- any other information you choose to provide through the Platform.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Platform, we may automatically collect certain technical and usage information, such as:
- IP address;
- browser type, device type, operating system, and related technical identifiers;
- dates, times, and general records of access or use;
- log information, error information, security events, and diagnostic information; and
- information about how the Platform is used for operational, security, fraud-prevention, and troubleshooting purposes.
Barterfull does not currently use third-party analytics or advertising tracking tools on the Platform.
2.3 Location Information
If you provide a city and state when creating your profile, Barterfull may use a third-party geocoding service to convert that information into approximate geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) to support distance-based browsing and discovery features. We do not collect precise GPS or device location data.
2.4 Information From Third Parties and Service Providers
We may receive information from service providers or third parties that support the Platform, including providers used for infrastructure, communications, authentication, security, or data hosting.
3. Public and Platform Visibility
Barterfull includes public-facing features. Certain profile information and content may be visible to non-members and to search engines or other third parties depending on how the Platform is configured and how you use it.
In particular:
- your maker profile — including your name or business name, city, craft tags, about blurb, social links, gallery photos, markets you attend, and your "Traded with N makers" count — may be visible to anyone, including non-members;
- your city is displayed publicly on your profile and in browse results;
- messages sent through the Platform are not private in the sense of being beyond Barterfull's operational review, storage, or disclosure practices described in this Privacy Policy; and
- trade confirmation records are stored privately — only the resulting count of distinct confirmed trading partners is shown publicly.
You should not post information on the Platform that you do not want to be potentially visible to other users or, where applicable, to the public.
4. How We Use Information
We may use information we collect to:
- provide, operate, maintain, improve, and secure the Platform;
- create and manage accounts and profiles;
- host photos, messages, and other content;
- facilitate communication and connections between Members;
- support browsing, discovery, and distance-based Platform features using geocoded location data;
- record and display confirmed trade partner counts;
- send transactional emails, service messages, account notifications, security alerts, and other operational communications;
- send SMS/text messages as described in Section 5;
- verify accounts, respond to support requests, and communicate with users;
- investigate suspected fraud, abuse, policy violations, safety incidents, or unlawful activity;
- enforce our Terms of Service and other policies;
- comply with legal obligations and respond to valid legal requests; and
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
5. SMS / Text Messaging
5.1 Program Description
If you provide a mobile phone number in connection with your account, Barterfull may use that number to send you SMS/MMS text messages related to your use of the Platform. The types of messages you may receive include:
- account activity notifications (e.g., new messages from other Members, trade confirmation requests and updates);
- security and verification messages (e.g., phone verification codes); and
- Barterfull Platform news and updates (if you opt in to this message type).
5.2 Opt-In
SMS messaging is opt-in. By providing your mobile number and agreeing to receive text messages during account setup or in your notification settings, you consent to receive the message types described above. Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of using the Platform.
5.3 Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on your account activity. You may receive more messages during periods of higher activity (e.g., active trade negotiations or conversations).
5.4 Rates
Message and data rates may apply. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply to messages you receive and any replies you send.
5.5 How to Opt Out (STOP)
You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any text message you receive from Barterfull. After we receive your STOP message, we will send you a one-time confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. You can re-enable SMS notifications at any time through your account notification settings.

5.7 Mobile Data — No Sharing or Selling
We do not share, sell, rent, lease, or disclose your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in consent to any third party, affiliate, or lead generator for marketing or promotional purposes at any time. Mobile opt-in data and consent will not be used for any purpose other than sending the types of messages described in this Section 5 and as otherwise required by law.
6. Communications (Non-SMS)
Barterfull may send operational and transactional communications related to your account or use of the Platform, including account notices, security alerts, new message notifications, trade confirmation updates, support responses, and legal or policy notices.
If Barterfull uses third-party communication or delivery providers (such as email delivery services), those providers may process the information needed to transmit operational or account-related messages.
7. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information:
- to vendors, contractors, hosting providers, communication providers, and other service providers that support the Platform;
- to other users or to the public when information is included in profiles or other features designed for visibility or interaction (see Section 3);
- to comply with law, regulation, legal process, court order, subpoena, or governmental request;
- to investigate, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, safety issues, security incidents, or violations of our Terms or policies;
- in connection with an actual or proposed merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar business transaction; or
- with your direction or consent.
Barterfull does not currently sell personal information for money and does not currently use third-party ad tech or ad-targeting systems on the Platform.
8. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Barterfull may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary or helpful to operate, secure, and remember preferences on the Platform. These may include technologies used for authentication, session management, fraud prevention, security, load balancing, or other core site functions.

9. Data Retention
Barterfull may retain information for as long as necessary or useful for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:
- provide the Platform;
- maintain records of account activity, messages, photos, trade confirmation records, and moderation decisions;
- comply with law, legal process, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations;
- investigate incidents, disputes, abuse, fraud, or safety concerns;
- enforce agreements and policies; and
- protect Barterfull, users, and third parties.
Even if you close your account or delete certain information from active Platform views, Barterfull may retain records, backups, logs, and archived copies for legal, security, enforcement, operational, or business continuity reasons.
10. Security
Barterfull uses measures intended to help protect information, but no system, service, or transmission method is completely secure. Barterfull does not guarantee that information will be immune from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Users are responsible for safeguarding account credentials and for using caution when sharing information on or through the Platform.
11. Your Choices
Depending on how the Platform is configured, you may be able to:
- update your account or profile information;
- change certain notification and visibility settings, including SMS opt-in preferences;
- pause your profile (which hides it from browse results while keeping messaging active);
- close your account; or
- contact Barterfull regarding privacy-related questions.
You may also control some browser-level cookie settings through your browser or device settings, although disabling certain cookies or similar technologies may affect Platform functionality.
12. Children
The Platform is not intended for children under 18, and Barterfull does not permit users under 18 to use the Platform.
13. Third-Party Services
The Platform may contain links to or integrations with third-party services, including social platforms you link on your profile (e.g., Instagram, Facebook). Barterfull is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. Any information you provide to third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
14. U.S. Processing
Barterfull is based in the United States and the Platform is intended for U.S. users. Information may be processed, stored, or accessed in the United States or other jurisdictions where Barterfull or its service providers operate.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Barterfull may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, Barterfull will update the Effective Date and may provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law.
